second European art exhibition at the K37

STREIFZÜGE – UITSTAPJES

From 9-11 May 2025, a joint German-Dutch exhibition will take place at K37 (Waldhausenerstr. 37, 41061 Mönchengladbach). It is organised by K37 in cooperation with the VHS Mönchengladbach, the ADFC Mönchengladbach and the MGMG.

The ‘Streifzüge’ project is made possible by the Interreg Germany-Nederland programme and co-financed by the European Union.

The theme of this year's European joint exhibition is: Active artistic exchange as a building block of the living European bond between two cities.

Works of art, objects and paintings by artists from Mönchengladbach and the Roermond region will be on display.

There will also be an extensive supporting programme including a vernissage and a guided bike tour in Mönchengladbach.

The aim is to contribute to a lively partnership between the two communities and to vitalise encounters and exchanges between artists and citizens of both places.

In total, three Dutch artists and three artists from Mönchengladbach will give a joint insight into their work.

Three artists from the Roermond region will be represented:
Louk Weyers (Sculptures/Grathem), whose sculptures made of synthetic resin, figurative or abstract, in the transitional area between art and handicrafts, are particularly striking due to their colourful design.

Peter Jentjens (Clay handicraft/Roermond), whose sculptures and ceramics attempt to fully utilise the possibilities of clay as a material. The creative combination of individual workpieces to form a figurative whole is an interesting aspect of his work.

Marleen Hansen (art painter/Melick), her paintings attempt to emphasise the triad of experience, emotion and artistic expression. The pictures are often kept in abstract forms and yet remain easy to grasp, making it possible to empathise with them in a successful way.

From Mönchengladbach are represented: Jutta Weidemann-Tigges (art painter/Mönchengladbach) whose paintings, still oriented towards photorealism, take on an increasingly impressionistic character through the use of bold and often flat applications of colour.

Jürgen Heinze (sculptor/Korschenbroich), whose sculptures made from former technical utensils blur the distinction between the human and the mechanical, and

Reinhard Tigges (sculptor/Mönchengladbach), who utilises the formal language of surrealism when he conceives movement as a spaceless abstraction and thus approaches the human psyche itself as a subject.

The exhibition is entitled „STREIFZÜGE – UITSTAPJES“ and illuminates intense and individual moments of encounter. Be it encounters in our lives and their expression on the canvas or materials and machines. We want to explore the differences and similarities between different perceptions of and approaches to art. Is the artwork a pure reflection on real events and encounters or does it not create precisely this moment of encounter in the first place?...

On Friday, 9 May at 19:00 the event will kick off with a vernissage. In addition to a welcoming address by Lord Mayor Felix Heinrichs, there will also be an art-historical overview of the theme of the exhibition and its significance in the visual arts. The vernissage is open to the public.

Afterwards, there will be enough time to talk to the artists about their work.

On Saturday, 10 May at 14:00 visitors will have the opportunity to discuss the artworks together over a relaxed brunch The artists will present an exemplary work and its creative process.

On Sunday, 11 May at 14:30 an „ArtRIDE“, will take place in cooperation with the ADFC MG. In just under 1 ½ hours, various publicly accessible works of art in Mönchengladbach are visited by bike. A city guide will provide interesting information about each work of art. The tour starts at 14:30 at K37. Rental bikes are available nearby.

All events are free of charge and open to all interested citizens.

Contemporary art in the K37

Joint exhibition on the topic of work-life balance

From 4 October to 6 October, a joint exhibition of artists from Mönchengladbach and the surrounding area entitled ‘Work-life-balance’ will take place at K37 in cooperation with the VHS Mönchengladbach.

In recent years, the need for a new balance between work and leisure, life and the necessities of life, self-determination and heteronomy has been discussed.
Today, many people are asking themselves who they actually are or what they want to do with their lives. These new debates about identity often take place on a very abstract level and don't always seem to us to be goal-orientated. We would therefore like to try to find an artistic answer to this complex by bringing together artists from a wide variety of backgrounds and techniques. The aim is to create a diorama of different perspectives on identity and society, work and life that will help us to continue thinking about these fundamental questions for all of us.

We were able to win Frollein Suomi (Object artist and poet from Finland), who in her art makes everyday objects in particular the subject of an examination of her own life's journey; Tom Hütt (Photographer from Viersen), who uses ICM photography to pose new questions about temporality, everyday life and identity; Nils Backhaus (Painter from Nettetal), who uses abstraction to re-emphasise the question of the form of the individual in the field of tension between consciousness and corporeality; Elena Kambina (Painter, performance and video artist from Uzbekistan/ Ukraine), who makes the interaction of her art with the viewer and the associated reflection and projection itself the subject of her art; Jutta Weidemann-Tigges (Painter from Mönchengladbach), which is dedicated to the field of tension between individuality and sociality of the gaze andReinhard Tigges (Painter and sculptor from Mönchengladbach), whose work focuses on the aspects of heteronomy, the value of work and balance.

The art exhibition will be opened with a vernissage on 4 October at 19:00. The event will be introduced by an art-historically orientated introduction to the theme of the exhibition by Mr Dr. Bernhard Jansen. .

On Saturday, 5 October, there will be a brunch for invited guests.

On Sunday, 6 September, the ‘wonderful old town flea market’ will take place on Waldhausenerstr. parallel to the exhibition. The K37 will be open during the flea market.
The exhibition is free for visitors.

Franco-German art exhibition at K37 in cooperation with the Mönchengladbach Adult Education Centre

In cooperation with the adult education centre, a joint German-French exhibition with a varied supporting programme will take place from 17 May to 19 May 2024 at K37 (Waldhausenerstr. 37, 41061 Mönchengladbach).
The exhibition and all events are open to the public and free of charge.

Three French artists and three German artists give a joint insight into their work.

From Normandy, France, Viviane Dubosc (painter from Sommery) is represented, who devotes herself in particular to the theme of tides from various artistic perspectives; Jean-Pierre Georgin (sculptor from Le Tréport), a mathematician who deals with the human form in motion, among other things, in the field of tension between figuration and abstraction; Sylvain Georges (photographer from Dieppe), who is dedicated to the individual in a dissolving space.

The three German artists are Jutta Weidemann-Tigges (painter/ Mönchengladbach), who is particularly concerned with the physicality and culturality of movement as a coditio humana; Jürgen Heinze (Sculptor/Korschenbroich), who deals with the rearrangement of industrial artefacts, among other things, and thus thematises the movement of the human spirit through the means of alienation itself in his work; Reinhard Tigges (Sculptor/Painter/ Mönchengladbach), who utilises the formal language of surrealism when he conceives movement as a spaceless abstraction and thus approaches the human psyche itself as a subject.

The event will kick off with a vernissage on 17 May 2024 at 19:00.
On Saturday, 18 May 2024 at 16:00, there will be a group discussion on the topic of "on the move/mobility" and its significance for individuals.
On Sunday, 19 May 2024 at 14:30, an "ArtWalk" will be held by local artist Malte Sonnenfeld.

We look forward to your visit!
